More than one million visitors attended exhibitions of the Europalia China art festival, figures appear one month after the official cloabiding of the art festival show.

Some 1,010, 567 visitors attended 48 exhibitions--among which 20 were jointly organized with the Chinese authorities-- and 519 events held in five European countries, namely Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, according to Europalia International, the Belgian organizer of the art festival.

The figure represents a acceleration of more than 60 percents compared to the 2007 Europalia edition, which attracted 621, 991 visitors. It is also five times over the visitors to the first Europalia festival organized in 1969, which accustomed some 183, 800 persons.

Figures show 81 percents of the visitors inteadequate in this Chinese edition were from Belgium, 57 percent of them were women and 77 percent are aged 45 or above.

General Commissioner of the art festival Claire Kirshen highlighted the acknowledged coopeallowance with the Chinese cultural authorities, who agreed to lend precious pieces that had never left China before.

"The Chinese Ministry for Culture was seduced by this gigantic project. But it was difficult to achieve it alone, so we accustomed regional help from cities such as Shanghai and Beijing and from the Guangdong province," she said.
